Questions - And Answers

Q: What is it?

A: Holiday Club is a week long event which is fun, exciting, and helps children to get to know Jesus.

Q: Do I have to come to church to attend?

A: No, everybody's welcome

Q: Will my children be brainwashed?

A: In Hexham? I think not. You probably know half the team already. We're in this for the long haul, so rather than an intense week of pressure (although it is for the team) it will be a fun week where children get to know each other, a little bit about the Bible, and hopefully get a chance to find out how much God loves them.

Q: Who is on the team?

A: All the team are volunteers, most of whom come from Hexham. To be on the team you have to have a current CRB form (I've got three).

Q: Does it cost anything?

A: Holiday Club is free, although there is the opportunity to give a donation. There is a collection at the bandstand which is half for Scripture Union and half to the Dalit Freedom Network, trying to eradicate slavery (topical this year) which is still happening in India.

Q: Can I leave my children and go and do something else?

A: For Storytime, we ask grown-ups to stay with children. For 4-6s, 7-9s and 10+ in the morning, we ask you to leave your children, and then pick them up at 12:30pm. You will need to tell us if somebody else is coming, and also provide an emergency contact, and preferably a mobile number. For nightshift, we expect that many of the participants will make it under their own steam.

Q: Do I have to register?

A: Every child has to be registered. This helps us in terms of health and safety, dietary needs etc. You can pre-register at and then go to Shalom Bookshop. There is always a scrum of registration on the Monday morning - help us to help you by registering early.

Q: What about special needs?

A: We do all we can to accommodate everybody. Please note on the registration forms any special needs your children might have, or email us early with particular requests. Trinity the 10+ venue has level access. St Aidan's for 4-6 and 7-9 has level access and a lift. Hexham Community Church for nightshift has an outside chair lift.

Q: Will it be running next year?

A: Yes, Hexham Holiday Club has been running each summer for 35 years now.

Q: Why are there no afternoon activities this year?

A: Last year's team came mainly from outside, and were all free in the afternoon. This year's team (all but 5) is home grown, and they have to go home and answer the mail, do the laundry, clean the windows etc.

Q: I've enjoyed Holiday Club so much that I'd like to do it throughout the year. What can I do?

A: Holiday Club monthly is on the third Saturday of the month starting in September, from 10:30am until 12noon at Trinity Methodist Church on Beaumont Street, and is ideal for Reception to Year 5. On Friday nights in September between 7pm and 9pm there is Rock Solid, which is for years 6, 7 and 8. If you're in Year 9 and above, then we'll probably be running Youth Alpha again in 2008.
