Questions - And Answers
Q: What is it?
A: Holiday Club is a week long event which is fun, exciting, and helps children to get to know Jesus.
Q: Do I have to come to church to attend?
A: No, everybody's welcome
Q: Will my children be brainwashed?
A: In Hexham? I think not. You probably know half the team already. We're in this for the long haul, so rather than an intense week of pressure (although it is for the team) it will be a fun week where children get to know each other, a little bit about the Bible (five of the Top Ten "Must Know" Bible Stories), and hopefully get a chance to find out how much God loves them.
Q: Who is on the team?
A: All the team are volunteers, most of whom come from Hexham. To be on the team you have to have a current CRB form (I've got four).
Q: Does it cost anything?
A: Holiday Club is free, although there is the opportunity to give a donation. There is a collection at the bandstand which is half for Scripture Union and this year half to the Uhuru Ministries.
Q: Can I leave my children and go and do something else?
A: For Storytime, we ask grown-ups to stay with children younger than 3. For 4-5s, 6-7s, 8-9s and 10+ in the morning, we ask you to leave your children at the venue, and then pick them up at 12:30pm. You will need to tell us if somebody else is coming, and also provide an emergency contact, and preferably a mobile number. For Nightshift, we expect that many of the participants will make it under their own steam.
Q: Do I have to register?
A: Every child has to be registered. This helps us in terms of health and safety, dietary needs etc. You can pre-register at The Cedar Tree Bookshop. There is always a scrum of registration on the Monday morning - help us to help you by registering early.
Q: What about special needs?
A: We do all we can to accommodate everybody. Please note on the registration forms any special needs your children might have, or email us- early with particular requests. St Mary's the Storytime venue has level access. The Salvation Army for 8-9s has level access. 6-7s are at the Beaumont Hotel which has two steps up. Trinity Methodist Church for 4-5s has level access. Hexham Community Church for 10+ and Nightshift has steep stairs.
Q: Will it be running next year?
A: Yes, Hexham Holiday Club has been running each summer for 39 years now.
Q: Why are there no afternoon activities this year?
A: Previous year's teams came mainly from outside, and were all free in the afternoon. This year's team (all but 1) is home grown, and they have to go home and answer the mail, do the laundry, clean the windows etc.
Q: I've enjoyed Holiday Club so much that I'd like to do it throughout the year. What can I do?
A: There are events scheduled throughout the year, watch the Calendar page for more details.
